We do things a little differently here.
Our philosophy is that the complete high performance soccer player needs to train the technical, tactical, physical, and mental components of their game.
Technical aspects are basic skills like dribbling, passing, ball control, etc.
Physical aspects are making sure your body is capable of performing the movements necessary for 90 minutes, which includes fitness and nutrition.
The tactical aspect of the game means knowing where to be on the field, having vision, and playing according to a strategy.
Finally, the mental aspect of the game is learning how to manage your psychology to perform to your full potential each time. This means overcoming adversity, building mental toughness, and learning how to cope with nervousness.
These four elements of the game are pretty well established.
In fact, if you start checking around the web, you will find that there are quite a few sites out there that offer you advice in some or all of these areas.
They break the game down into 4 separate chunks, and then talk about how to improve each one, like this:
We don’t quite agree with that type of thinking.
Here at the High Performance Soccer Hub, our idea of the game looks a bit more like this:
The base of the pyramid represents the foundation. In order to play the game, you need basic physical fitness and technical skills.
You can have the best mental management and tactical strategies in the world, but without the basic physical and technical capabilities to execute those, you will not be able to play the game.
If you can’t run, you cant play, no matter how mentally tough you are. Similarly, if you can’t kick a ball accurately, there is no use in discussing strategy, because you won’t be able to execute on any of those strategies.
So your physical and technical abilities are the foundation of soccer.
On top of that is the mental game. You must have confidence and determination when you play, otherwise you will not be able to perform well.
If you have the best physical and technical abilities, but are unable to perform well because of your mentality, then there is no point in discussing strategy because you wont be able to execute.
Only when the physical, technical, and mental game is developed does it become relevant to learn new strategies, to train your vision or game intelligence.
Thats when the game can become a fast paced chess match, with each manager trying to outsmart the other. Those managers rely on their players being at the top of their game, otherwise their strategies would never work.
On the outside of the pyramid there are the other, less fundamental but still important aspects of the game. Things like equipment and technology, which can help you maximize benefit from training and can give you an edge over your competition in a game.
This is your home for everything you need to do to be great on the pitch. Stick with us and we will take your game to the next level, whatever that means for you. Best of all, we will make it fun along the way.
Thanks for stopping by.
